Living Room With Fiberglass Windows |
Basic Concepts of Fiberglass Windows
Fiberglass windows are widely chosen as the alternative for glass window. People select fiberglass due to its strength and durability. Among all kinds of window material, fiberglass can face any weather. Compared to others, fiberglass is environment friendly. This is so because fiberglass has lower carbon footprint. The maintenance is easy too. Although the price is more expensive than other window types, fiberglass is really worth to be bought. To install it, people have two choices, either hire the professional or install the window with their own hands. In installing, there are several steps that should be done.
Preparing the Material and Equipment
Before starting the installation, it is important to gather the required materials and equipment. Of course, the main material is the window. Usually, the fiberglass seller provides the window in ready-to-use state. Thus, the house owner just needs to directly install it. But, they also have to think about the finishing paint. The house owner can choose the color that he or she likes. The equipment that will be needed for the installation is very basic. It is including saw, nails, hammer, and others.
Measuring the Window
Then, after all the material and equipment's are gathered, the house owner has to measure the window. This is an important step. Sometimes, the window has different size with the fiberglass. Although it is just one or two inches, it can be a problem if the fiberglass is too big for the window size. So, to measure, the house owner just needs to use a measure tape.
Installation
If it is a replacement of an old window, the house owner has to remove the window trim first. It can be done with chisel and pry bar. Make sure that the window is clear from unused nails. Once it is clean, the house owner can start installing the fiberglass. They can use wood spacers to help the fiberglass into the right position. Before nailing the fiberglass to its position, make sure that it can be well operated. Then, the house owner can place spacer behind the nail to prevent any warping.
Insulating the Window
The next step is insulation. It can be done with foam spray. The house owner needs to apply the foam between the window frame and fiberglass. After the foam is fully applied, the house owner should set back the trims which are previously detached.
Finishing
Last but not least, the house owner should paint the window. Actually, it isn't a must. Fiberglass is already painted on its outer side. But unfortunately, the inside window hasn't painted yet. If the house owner wants it to be painted, then he or she can paint it. Of course, the color shouldn't be as the same as the outer paint of the fiberglass windows.
